Am vergangenen Freitag konnte man im Steampowered-Forum ohne Ankündigung diesen Thread vorfinden.
Es handelt sich dabei um nichts geringeres als eine Veröffentlichung eines Counter-Strike 1.6 Updates. Das Update trägt schlicht und einfach den Namen 'Counter-Strike 1.6 Beta' und bringt zwei 'major updates' mit sich.
Die beiden Änderungen wurden von der Community, wie schon so oft, meist negativ aufgenommen und die berühmt berüchtigte Frage, ob Steam mit einem Update ein Spiel verbessert oder verschlechtert kam erneut auf.
Die Stellungnahme seitens Valve könnt ihr folgendem Statement entnehmen:
There is a Counter-Strike 1.6 Beta available to all existing Counter-Strike owners. To opt into the Beta, run steam://install/150. The focus of this beta is on the dedicated server component, in particular the Linux piece. Here are the specific changes:
Integrated Steam Community features into Counter-Strike
- In-game player name now automatically uses player's Steam Community name
- Avatars are displayed on the scoreboard)
Other fixes
- Prevented some cvar exploits (thanks to AnAkIn for pointing them out)

The linux server has been updated to fix the new engine not being updated correctly. Make sure to install the beta into a NEW folder when using a dedicated server (the client will automatically do this, the beta on the client side does NOT interfere with normal game). Run the hldsupdatetool to get this update. |
